  • NEW FOR 2016: GROUP LM

The LM group (Limited Modifications) is designed to offer an easier and much quicker entry into lawn mower racing by having the minimum of rules and therefore making the build time very short and straightforward.

Any domestic garden ride-on or garden tractor up to a 21 hp engine is eligible, but it must retain the original gearbox.

The full rules are listed  here, but basically the engine governor can be removed or simply disconnected; you can change the pulleys to alter the gearing and the brake must be effective.

This is a completely separate group and there will be dedicated races at meetings and the mowers will be eligible to compete in the 12 Hour and other endurance races.

Any questions or queries related to the new group please direct at Simon Campbell: simonc@blmra.co.uk and he will help out as much as possible.

We hope to see some of you out there and good luck this year.

    ENGINE NEWS

    Loncin 413 vertical
The technical sub-committee has been made aware of some issues regarding the fitment of the Loncin 413 engine to Group 3 and some Group 4 machines, specifically with the retention of the original exhaust. We have therefore decided that the exhaust may be modified by inserting an extra length of pipe, BUT the original manifold and silencer must be included in the system. Any queries or questions can be addressed to technical@blmra.co.uk

    Loncin 390 horizontal
The committee continues to seek additional engine options and to this end we have just dyno-tested a Loncin 390cc 13hp horizontal shaft engine, and the test data are now available on request. The results show that this engine falls within our current criteria and as a result, we have decided to allow its use, again as long as the original exhaust is retained.

We have so far not had access to a Honda GX390 and this will therefore not be approved for use until such time as one has been tested, which we are endeavouring to do.
