Be involved

Would you like to be involved in lawn mower racing and like to know more?

You can get involved in a number of ways, either as a racer and prepare your own machine or like others you just want to be part of the event and maybe help marshal, lap keep or even organise an event, whichever you choose you will be made welcome. Other than racing which is covered elsewhere on our web site we do look for people to be involved in the following,

MARSHALLING

Marshalling is a key role in any form of motorsport, as a marshal you are there to be the eyes and ears of the race track and warn the racers of any incidents either via the use of a flag or help them when they get into trouble. You don’t need any specific skills, we provide training for you, just common sense and a reasonably developed sense of self preservation. It is a great way of meeting new people.

Frequently asked questions:

Q. Is experience in motor sport or marshalling required.
A. No, any prior experience would be useful, but people that are selected will be fully trained.

Q. What age do I have to be.
A. The minimum age is 18 years old.

Q. Do I need any qualifications.
A. No, we’re looking for enthusiastic people that enjoy motor sport, don’t want to race, but want to get involved and help out and meet new people.

Q. Where do the BLMRA hold their events.
A. Mainly all over the south of England and a couple of endurance races further North.

Q. What sort of training will I get.
A. Persons selected will be trained regarding their role as marshals at race meetings, or at an evening or weekend workshop.

Q. What will happen when I attend my first race meeting.
A. You will be introduced to all the racers and for the first couple of meetings you will be buddied up
with an experienced marshal who will act as your mentor.

Q. Will I have to attend every meeting.
A. No, we have a team which we can rotate when needed. You can do as many events as you like.

Q. What do I do if I’m interested.
A. Contact us!

LAP KEEPING

The BLMRA operate an electronic timing system, all the mowers have a transponder and when they pass under a loop they register on a computer. We are always in need of people to operate the lap keeping system throughout the weekend and again training is given. If this is something you could help out with again you would be welcomed with open arms!

ORGANISING

Generally when it comes to organising a race meeting  you have to know something about the sport however extra pair of hands to help run the day is always useful. Again this is another way of getting involved and meeting other members. We also have some other social events that take place through the year, helping at these would also be welcomed.

If any of these roles interest you please do get in touch with us.

NOGGIN AND NATTER

We also have a “Noggin and Natter” evening held on the first Monday of each month at the Cricketers Arms, so if you want to meet up with some of the members why not pop down to the pub for a chat.

There are also some other social events such as The Grand Grass Cutters Ball, Treasure Hunts and Classic Drives.
